Coworking spaces have become increasingly popular thanks to advances in technology that have made it easier to work remotely. Coworking spaces are an especially great option for solo and small firm attorneys who want a professional office without the challenge and hassle of office management, or unnecessarily committing to a long-term lease. There are many coworking spaces out there, but most cater to startups and creatives, which is a very different set of requirements than what today’s attorney requires. This is where LawWorks stands apart. LawWorks is a workspace that provides shared office space, community, and business services exclusively for lawyers and legal professionals. Details In October 2019, LawWorks opened its flagship location in Irvine, California, conveniently located across from the John Wayne Airport on MacArthur Boulevard. The new location is a membership-only workspace designed by and for attorneys. With a sleek and modern interior, LawWorks provides a fresh

Image
Ben Hudson made a hire for his small firm that really didn’t work out. So he went back to the drawing board on his hiring process. He took the time to outline his core values and build a thoughtful, slow-moving hiring process around them to make sure his replacement was the right person. Ben doesn’t take unscheduled calls, either, because it’s better for him and his clients. Ben Hudson Ben is a lawyer for small and medium-sized businesses and their owners in Calgary, Alberta, Canada . He started his own law firm in order to build an efficient, well-defined law firm business with thoughtful processes and systems. Ben works with his wife, Allison, which could be the topic of an entire podcast episode of its own, and they have four awesome kids together. You can follow Ben on Instagram , Twitter and LinkedIn . How I Stopped Taking Unscheduled Calls

The most common complaint made by lawyers is that the constant flow of interruptions (phone calls and emails) throughout the day prevents them from getting any work done. However, the most common complaint made against lawyers is the failure to respond to clients. Fixing these two problems may seem like a zero-sum game, like you can’t correct one without worsening the other. Those underlying needs can often be addressed by a team member who isn’t a lawyer, and I w

Proper Deposition Objections

Whether you are defending (or taking) your first deposition or your hundredth, you’ve got to be ready to handle deposition objections properly. That means knowing which objections are proper and which are not. Once you know, you can keep the deposition proceeding smoothly , avoid embarrassing yourself, and feel confident when some overzealous know-it-all tries to bully you or your client.
